TOKYO, October 30, 2017 - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it will launch its newest MELSEC iQ-R Series general-purpose programmable controller, the IEC 61508 SIL 2-compliant redundant programmable controller paired with a redundant-function SIL2 CPU set for high performance and extra reliability, on October 31. To help reduce total cost of ownership (TCO), the system integrates detectors and controllers for monitoring and management and a safety programmable controller compliant with international safety standards.

As a next-generation programmable automation controller (PAC), the MELSEC iQ-R Series incorporates a revolutionary high-speed system bus that improves productivity through advanced performance and functionality.

1)    Compliant with international safety standards-Compliant with IEC 61508 SIL 2, which is required for infrastructure systems, and has been certified by TÜV Rheinland® to meet global needs.

2)    Integrated process control and safety control realizes TCO reduction-GX Works3 engineering software integrates process- and safety-control programming-Enables execution of integrated process- and safety-control programs with a single CPU module (to execute generic control programs sequentially), thereby helping to reduce total cost of ownership.   

3)    Redundant configuration realizes highly reliable system-Redundant basic system (SIL2 CPU set1, power supply module, basic base unit, network module) ensures continuous operation by switching to standby if error occurs in control system.
